MTV accredited singer and songwriter Missy Mcanulty has written 'Power of the Mind', motivated by her own personal experience of how it can feel when mental health weighs you down.
‘Power of the Mind’ is a great commercial track, highlighting to listeners the potential for traumatic thoughts and feelings in the world of mental health. The song was produced by Alex Fernandez, and includes a collaboration with musician Anthony Mensah, who also identified with the core message.
The music video also highlights the effects of ill mental health, displaying characters in a battle with their own mental health, and what can happen when a person is afraid to reach out. Along with the director Ben Jordan of PC Productions, Missy sourced actors who had gone through difficult experiences. This was a deliberate part of the casting requirements, as Missy wanted to ensure the actors’ emotions would mirror their real life experiences.
Missy approached Young Minds as she wanted to raise money through single sales and sponsorship of the music video. Her interest came from her research on the differing projects YoungMinds compile that give knowledge to adults, parents and children. Coming from a caring and loving home, Missy feels lucky to have had such incredible support from a young age. She wants to make sure that any young people suffering gets the same support as she did.
‘Power of the Mind’ launches on September 10th 2017
Information on how to buy the single or sponsor the video will be available from release day.
