Margaret and Robert Miles
In 2017, this amazing duo, Margaret and Robert cycled around the country visiting every Anglican cathedral England has to offer. They covered a total of 1738 miles all to raise awareness and funds for YoungMinds!
Our cycle challenge was divided into six separate trips from March – August. We travelled the lanes of England (with our luggage in panniers) and covered cathedrals from Truro to Carlisle and Hereford to Norwich. The journeys were magnificent through picturesque English lanes and villages. Of course we also cycled into many cities, using the amazingly helpful network of city cycle trails. The cathedrals were stunning – each surpassed our expectations. You have to admire the constructional feats achieved by crafts people many hundreds of years ago – as well as the more contemporary features that have been incorporated in more recent years. I loved the large copper bowl in Norwich cathedral that was once used in the manufacture of chocolate in the local factory and is now used as the font. There are some stunning scissor arches to see in Wells cathedral and numerous commemorative and imaginative stained glass windows to see in each cathedral.
On our travels we met up with many friends and also met lots of new people who were always happy to chat with a couple in lycra and high-viz jackets!
We have been delighted to raise funds for two charities – YoungMinds and Sustainable Land Trust. The latter is a local for us charity that also helps young people in need. We are delighted to have raised £5,000 for YoungMinds and thank all our friends who have supported us during the past six months.
Margaret and Robert have been such passionate fundraisers and an inspiration to support. Thank you both so much.
A massive thank you to all our brilliant fundraisers.
