Amplified Advisors

Meet our Amplified Youth and Parent Advisors, who are working with us to direct and develop every part of our programme - from strategy, to training and resources.

Our Amplified Advisors make sure that the voices and needs of young people and parents are at the heart of everything Amplified offers.

George

Participation in mental health is important to me because…
It brings people together while opening up the conversation about mental health from different angles. It is an incredibly powerful way of spreading positive mental health awareness and sharing knowledge.

My advice for other young people/ parents is…
Don’t be ashamed to talk about mental health. It has taken me years to realise that opening up and talking about it is the greatest therapy.

Jacob

Participation in mental health is important to me because...
I feel it's extremely important to do as much as I can to help others, using my experiences as an LGBT+ young person and as someone who knows how scary it can be first approaching someone to ask for help.

My advice for other young people/ parents is....
This is not all there is - keep fighting, I believe in you.

Jummy

Participation in mental health is important to me because…
being actively involved in decision making can help young people to ensure our needs and wants are addressed by our services, and decisions are not being made without young people in mind.

My advice is for other young people is… to live and learn. It's very important to reflect on everything we go through in life, and to turn this into our strengths.

Lauren

Participation in mental health is important to me because…
As a young person I wasn't listened to when I spoke up about inconsistencies in mental health care, and this left me feeling let down by the system. There wasn't any way for me to share my opinions - in the end I had to create one.

My advice for other young people is….
There are so many others out there who just like you want to be heard. Start off small, even if it’s a Facebook status or tweet, and build from there. Don’t be afraid that others will judge you for speaking out. You will inspire them.

Lorna

Participation in mental health is important to me because... the best people to talk about what mental health care needs, on any level, are the people with experience of it.

My advice for other young people/ parents is... to keep up conversations. Nothing is too small and you deserve support!

Amanda

Participation in mental health is important to me because…
I have experienced the intolerable impact which occurs in the absence of early support. With a more preventative response, and particularly by working in closer partnership with schools, we can create far better outcomes.

My advice for other parents is to…
TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS! Make sure you are armed with accurate information and be prepared to be the voice of your child. Stand your ground when your gut tells you to. Accept offers of help. The journey is exhausting but it won’t be like this forever.

Kirstie

Participation in mental health is important to me…
because by working together as a team, parents, professionals and young people can improve services and get the best possible outcome for young people.

My advice to other parents is…
try to keep the lines of communication open with your child, let them know they can trust you and that you are there for them but find support for yourself too. Having someone to talk to can make all the difference.
