Hello Yellow

Come together in yellow.

10 October 2024

Right now, the world is a really tough place for children and young people to grow up in. The pressures are mounting up, but when they reach out for help, often the support they get isn't good enough, or it's not there at all.

We want young people to know that they don’t have to go through this alone. Things can get better.

This World Mental Health day, wear yellow with thousands of other schools and raise money to show young people that they’re not alone with their mental health.

Because we stand brighter, together.

Planning your day

2. Decide on a location

You may need to think about where to hold your event. This could be at your school or workplace, but of course you can wear yellow anywhere! If you’re setting up a Hello Yellow event in your community, you could host it from the comfort of your own home or at the local town hall. We’re sure you’ll find the perfect venue, for the perfect Hello Yellow day.

3. Tell others what you're doing

Whether it’s your friends, family, colleagues or teachers – make sure everyone knows that you will be taking part in Hello Yellow.

If you're taking part as a school, make sure the headteacher or head of department is aware you’re planning a Hello Yellow day. Taking part in Hello Yellow at school is predominantly a dress-down day, so it’s important you have support from your school’s leaders. If they need more information or have any questions, they can email us at helloyellow@youngminds.org.uk.

4. Save the date – 10 October 2024

Hello Yellow takes place on 10 October 2024 – World Mental Health Day.

If you’re hosting a Hello Yellow event, get your invites sent out as soon as possible and let people know the dress code: YELLOW!

If this date isn’t suitable, you can always hold your Hello Yellow day on a different date.

5. Create your JustGiving page

Now it's time to set up your fundraising page. We recommend adding information about why you're taking part in Hello Yellow and photos too.

When you’re ready, why not share the page with your colleagues, students, friends and family?

6. Plan your day and send reminders

When you sign up, we'll send you everything you need for the day, from decorations to wellbeing activities – we’ve got you covered.

On the day, the opportunities of how you can take part are endless: from a bake sale to a sweepstake, a raffle to a ‘who has the most yellow outfit?’ competition.

If you’re taking part in Hello Yellow either hybrid or remotely, you can plan your activities to be via Teams or Zoom call friendly. If you’re taking part solo, you could challenge yourself to do something outside of your comfort zone.

Whatever you do, we urge you to be creative!

Once you've decided, it’s a good idea to send reminders to let everyone know the plan of action for the day and remind them to get their outfits ready!

Dig out your brightest Hello Yellow outfit. Whether you choose a splash of yellow or cover yourself head to toe in yellow – it all counts!

8. Shout about it on social media!

How your donations make a difference

The funds raised from Hello Yellow are vital to ensuring our vision to create a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health can be a reality. Here are just a few ways funds raised through Hello Yellow can help.

  • £5

£5 could help us reach 205 young people through Hello Yellow and show them they’re not alone with their mental health.

  • £15

£15 raised could help ensure our Parents Helpline continues to provide advice and support to a parent worried about their child.

  • £20

£20 could allow us to provide mental health resources to over seven schools taking part in Hello Yellow.

  • £30

£30 could help train a young Activist, building their confidence to speak up and influence the decisions that affect the future of young people’s mental health.

  • £67.50

£67.50 could give one parent or carer a call back from one of our independent, experienced Professional Advisors.

  • £219

£219 could train one Parents Helpline Adviser to be on the end of the phone to provide information and support to parents and carers.

FAQs for Hello Yellow

When you sign up to Hello Yellow, we'll send you everything you need. You will receive a bespoke pack and resources, dependent on whether you’re an individual, school/college/university or company.

Each pack contains useful information and all the activities and resources you need to make your Hello Yellow a day to remember!

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of Hello Yellow supporters taking part in this event every year, we are unable to send out any additional resources or promotional materials. However, if you're signed up for Hello Yellow you will have access to our brand new resources and fundraising packs in time for the big day.

Our social media team try to keep posts on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels related to mental health tips and information. Due to the large scale of our Hello Yellow campaign, we are therefore unfortunately unable to promote fundraising events.

We would love for you to let everyone know about your fundraising though, so please do get posting about it on social media! Tag us @YoungMindsUK and use the hashtag #HelloYellow.

Thank you so much for thinking of inviting us to take part in Hello Yellow at your school. Unfortunately, we would not be able to accept your kind offer as we receive so many requests and simply do not have the resources or capacity to attend.
