YoungMinds Fundraising Round-up

In this week’s round-up blog, we congratulate and thank some of our brilliant fundraisers, shining a light on how they been supporting the work of YoungMinds.

We are so proud of and grateful for the incredible work our fundraisers do to help raise vital funds and awareness around child and young people’s mental health. We couldn’t do it without you.

Bailey, Taylor and Kaden

Superstar supporters, Bailey, Taylor and Kaden, age 9-12, took part in the Worthing 3K to raise funds for YoungMinds. Speaking to mum, Susan, she told us:

Bailey said he ran for YoungMinds because mental health is something he is aware of for adults but to know children can also suffer and it’s not recognised is upsetting…just because he's a child does not mean his mental health can and should go undiagnosed.
Proud mum Susan

"Taylor says he did his best and ran when his heart was pounding in his ears, knowing he was running for this cause meant he would push through any aches and pains. So many children and young adults feel pain in their head but they have to keep on suffering. It's not fair.

"Kaden, this little guy talks about and has an amazing understanding of mental health. He ran with heart and soul. He believes he was running for all that have mental health illness diagnosed and not. He was proud to wear his t-shirt and to see his connection to a cause that needs more awareness.”

Everyone at YoungMinds would like to wish a massive thank you to Bailey, Taylor and Kaden for their amazing achievement.

Civil Service Fast Stream

On 25th January 2017, ten colleagues and friends from the Civil Service Fast Stream came together to cycle 603 miles in aid of YoungMinds. Collectively known as the ‘Fast Dreamers’, the team comprised early career civil servants working in London, Coventry, Newcastle and Cardiff. The ‘Fast Dreamers’ used the indoor Land’s End to John O’Groats cycling challenge to raise awareness amongst colleagues and friends and to raise £3,085.40 including Gift Aid to help YoungMinds continue its vital work.

“Whilst the two former constables amongst us demonstrated their impressive athletic prowess, the grueling 60 miles each was a real challenge for those of us more used to chocolate bunnies than to being gym bunnies. Nevertheless, our training proved valuable and, despite wondering what we’d got ourselves into the week of the challenge, we all finished the day with a massive sense of accomplishment. Having started at 10:00 and finished at 17:15, the team’s camaraderie was absolutely vital to breaking through the mental barriers that came from the physical pain of having been on a spin bike for that many hours. Though the day was tough, it pales in comparison to the challenges faced by children and youth suffering mental health problems.”
