What you'll learn

This course will help you understand how risk factors, crime and mental health are connected. It will enable you to deliver effective support to the young people within your practice area who need it.

By the end of the course, you’ll:

  • Understand the spectrum of mental health and be aware of common mental health problems
  • Understand and recognise mental health stigma and its impact on children and young people
  • Understand and recognise the link between risk factors for poor mental health and offending behaviour, such as poor attachment-building, abuse and neglect, poverty, the mental distress of family members and bereavement
  • Support young people at risk of offending through your knowledge of resilience
