Having faced the effects of mental health difficulties personally, Leane explains why she has chosen to run the London Marathon in support of YoungMinds and Heads Together.
I run and train to support my daughter’s ongoing struggle to live with psychosis and I’m motivated everyday by her determination and strength.
Representing YoungMinds and Heads Together at the London Marathon, I want to stir up positive publicity about mental illness in order to allow those suffering to ask for help and to allow their friends and families to understand how to help.
My daughter Jerrika
Jerrika was recently discharged from an adolescent psychiatric hospital followed shortly with a withdrawal of her medication due to a serious reaction.
I was looking for an outlet where I could highlight the ongoing struggle in trying to help and support my daughter whose daily life was very hard when trying to live with such horrible symptoms.
Training for the marathon is very challenging; physically and mentally, but not nearly as hard as Jerrika is finding living with psychosis. Her determination, strength and beauty motivate me every day.
