Daniel is running to break the stigma around mental illness.
Daniel shares his motivations for running this year’s London Marathon.
My motivations are firstly to raise awareness of YoungMinds, which is a charity I really believe in. The stigma around mental health is changing and I think we are talking more, but there are still many that remain silent. I know a lot of strong family and friends of mine who could have done with a charity like this whilst growing up, that’s why I chose (and am lucky enough) to be running in the marathon for YoungMinds.
Going beyond my comfort zone, the running has had such a positive effect on my mental health that I’ve found myself enjoying it. The marathon however, is a big step up and would be a good challenge.
I'd never spoken about the subject openly, but growing up both I and many people close to me were not able to talk about how they felt, or receive the support they needed.
