Fundraisers nominated for the JustGiving Awards 2017

Two of our incredible fundraisers, Chris and Alex, have been nominated for the JustGiving Awards 2017!

The JustGiving Awards celebrate the outstanding commitment from fundraisers in supporting a charity. Out of 31,000 nominees, Chris and Alex have been selected among 21 finalists for their positive contribution to a charity.

Here’s what they’re nominated for…

Chris Pickhaver has been nominated for Creative Fundraiser of the Year

Chris’ 16-year-old son Joe took his own life in December 2016, after a long struggle with mental illness. Ever since, the Pickhaver family have been raising awareness and funds for YoungMinds, enabling us to continue with our vital work in championing the wellbeing and mental health of young people. In just 8 months, the family have raised over £52,100.

Chris is nominated in the JustGiving Awards for Creative Fundraiser of the Year, for producing a beautiful book of photographs in Joe’s memory. The stunning monochrome photos of Joe, and his childhood surroundings on Whistable beach, are a moving tribute from a father to his son.

Chris’ nomination is well-deserved, and we cannot thank the Pickhaver family enough for their remarkable efforts in supporting YoungMinds.

Alex Staniforth has been nominated for Endurance Fundraiser of the Year

Climbing just one peak wasn’t enough for adventurer enthusiast Alex Staniforth, who in 72 days climbed a staggering 100 peaks in the UK – and aimed to be the fastest to do so. In order to reach the highest point of all UK counties in time, Alex even cycled and kayaked between climbs.

In completing #ClimbTheUK, Alex raised just over £23,300 for YoungMinds.

The challenges in mountaineering are nothing compared to what many young people with mental health problems are facing, so I’m glad to be raising funds for YoungMinds in the process and taking this important message to new heights.
Alex Staniforth

Alex’s endurance is staggering, and so it’s only fitting he’s been nominated as Endurance Fundraiser of the Year. We want to say a huge thank you and well done to Alex for all he’s done for YoungMinds and young people’s mental health.
